HOW TO GET THERE

There are three local airports: Clermont-Ferrand (1 hour 15 mins from Ambert), Lyon (2 hours 15mins from Ambert) and St.Etienne (1 hour 30 mins from Ambert). EasyJet does low cost flights from Stansted to Lyon. Car hire is reasonably cheap.

Alternatively you can motor through France using motorways or main roads according to your choice. We would be pleased to advise you on recommended routes should you so wish.

Important:   If you are coming from the North of France or Paris by the motorway (A71), it is strongly recommended to leave the motorway at junction 15 (Clermont-Ferrand).  Then follow directions for Thiers (A710 which becomes A89).   Take exit 2 (A89) at Thiers, then take the D906 direction Ambert.

It is not recommended to continue on the motorway A71 (A75) to Issoire.  The road between Issoire and Ambert is not easy to follow.
